Our Efforts in Suriname

Catalyste+ has been working in Suriname for over 10 years. We work with governments, cooperatives, non-profits, and micro, small and medium-sized businesses to help ensure equal access to public services and progress towards gender equality and economic prosperity. Our work in Suriname falls under the Accelerating Women Empowerment (AWE) and Canada-CARICOM Expert Deployment Mechanism (CCEDM) programs.

Our Focus

Strengthening Agribusiness

We build capacity in the production and transformation of high-value crops. Our efforts help improve income generation, especially for women. We’re focused on women’s empowerment in the acai value chain.

Enhancing Governance

We collaborate with associations and public sector partners working to improve access to services and create economic opportunity for all. We build capacity with government officials and not-for-profit employees to ensure effective corporate governance.

How We’ve Made a Difference in Suriname

▪ We collaborated with the Bureau of Gender Affairs in drafting a gender policy and a monitoring and evaluation plan for its Gender Vision Policy Document 2021-2035.

▪ The owner of Erna’s Garden, an artisanal business that sells organic food products, received training in digital marketing and e-commerce to attract new customers and wholesale markets.

▪ Women acai producers with Pater Ahlbrinck Stichting (PAS) saw their revenues increase as a result of training in food safety and hygiene and web development.
